Great Day of Service 2013
Each year on a Saturday in May, the Grace family comes together to serve throughout the community for a few hours. This year, our Great Day of Service will be on May 18.
Sign up for one of this year’s 10 projects in the atrium after services from April 21 through May 12, or email Bill Walker at bwalker@verticaliq.com, detailing your name, project requested, phone number and email address.
Build a wheelchair ramp for a low-income client of Resources for Seniors: Help a senior remain in his or her home. The only skill required is an ability to hammer nails; the project leader will cut all boards and direct volunteers. 8am-12pm; 8 volunteers needed
Plant flowers and weed beds at Murdoch Center: The Murdoch Center in Butner provides residential care for developmentally disabled adults. Volunteers will plant flowers and weed beds in the courtyard for residents to enjoy and maintain. 9am-1:30pm; 8 volunteers needed
Glean strawberries for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle: Volunteers will glean strawberries from a local farm to provide food for area families. The Inter-faith Food Shuttle works to fight hunger in our community. 10am-12pm; up to 25 volunteers needed (age 5 or older with a parent)
Prepare books for distribution at Christian Library International: Volunteers will assemble and prepare books for mailing for this organization that distributes Christian books and Bibles free of charge to over 1,100 prisons, shelters and international missions. 9:30am-1pm; 10 volunteers needed
Clean and organize North Raleigh Ministries’ food pantry: North Raleigh Ministries helps to meet the needs of families and individuals living in North Raleigh who are facing emergency situations. Volunteers will help clean and organize food in NRM’s food pantry. 9:30am-1pm; 12 volunteers needed
Build affordable housing for Habitat for Humanity: Volunteers will work on construction of a local Habitat house for a low-income family. 8am-2pm; 12 volunteers needed (adults only)
Deconstruct housing to salvage building materials for Habitat for Humanity: Volunteers will help to deconstruct a local building to salvage materials for Habitat for Humanity’s ReUse Center. 8am-12pm; 12 volunteers needed (adults only)
Prepare sack lunches, weed and plant a garden for Raleigh Rescue Mission: Raleigh Rescue Mission transforms the broken lives of men, women and children by ministering to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Volunteers will prepare sack lunches for women and children who have stayed in the emergency overnight shelter, and will weed and plant flowers to beautify the front of the building. 9am-12pm; 10 volunteers needed (age 8 and older with parent)
Help move items to a new storage space for Dew4Him: Dew4Him Ministries helps at-risk women realize their full potential in Christ. Volunteers will clean out the ministry’s existing storage space and move items to a new storage space. Volunteers with a pickup truck are particularly welcome. 9am-12pm; 8 volunteers needed
Prepare items for summer Bible camp in Belarus for ABRO: ABRO supports children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Volunteers will assemble craft kits for the Kostyukovich Bible Camp with members of Restoration Community Church. 10am-12pm; 10 volunteers needed
